When considering laying artificial grass on a decking surface, you may have questions such as: Can I lay synthetic grass on decking? How will water penetrate? Will the wood deck rot?
The good news is that you can lay synthetic grass on top of timber decking, but there are a few important considerations to keep in mind.
Steps to Follow
Protect the Timber
Before installing artificial grass, it’s essential to protect your timber deck. This can be done using a recommended decking sealant to ensure the wood remains in good condition.
Don’t Lay Grass Directly on Wood
It’s not recommended to lay synthetic grass directly on the timber decking. Without sufficient space for water to drain or air to circulate, moisture can become trapped between the grass and the wood, leading to potential damage or rot. Additionally, using glue or joining tapes directly on the timber can ruin the wood.
Use K9 AirDrain Drain Cells
To allow proper drainage and airflow, we recommend using K9 AirDrain drain cells between the decking and the artificial grass. These cells act as a platform that supports the turf while ensuring proper drainage and air circulation.
Installation Steps
First, seal your timber deck using the appropriate decking sealant.
Then, lay the K9 AirDrain cells across the deck
Once the drain cells are in place, you can lay your artificial grass on top. Use heavy-duty double-sided joining tape, synthetic grass adhesive, or staples to secure the grass.
